Police in Lagos have arrested a 65-year-old man who paraded himself as the “Obi of Lagos,” sparking shock across the city – www.naijnaira.com reports.
The suspect, identified as Engr. Chibuike Azubike from Obodoukwu Ancient Kingdom in Imo State, was taken into custody alongside three alleged accomplices.
According to The Nation, those arrested with him include Chief Chibuzor Ani, 57, Chief Martins Nwaodika, 65, and Ikechukwu Franklin Nnadi, 41.
Authorities said the group had been preparing to unveil a supposed ₦1.5 billion prototype of a palace at Apple Hall, Amuwo Odofin.
The planned event was scheduled for Saturday, September 13, 2025, but police stormed the area before it could take place.
Security operatives sealed the venue and deployed tactical teams, including the Eko Strike Force, to prevent any breach of public order.
Police Commissioner CP Olohundare Jimoh described the impersonation as a “clear violation of Lagos State laws” and a threat to peace.
He further cautioned residents against individuals claiming traditional titles for fraudulent purposes.
“The Command will not tolerate anyone attempting to destabilize law and order under any disguise,” he said firmly.
Investigations remain ongoing, and the suspects are expected to face charges in court soon.
