Former Rivers State Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.), paid a visit to President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Wednesday evening — www.naijnaira.com reports.
The meeting took place just days after Ibas officially stepped down from office on September 17, ending his six-month tenure as head of the state during the emergency rule.
According to Punch, he arrived at Aso Rock around 6 p.m. and was escorted by two top government officials, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, and EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede.
Both Edun and Olukoyede ushered him directly into the President’s office, signaling the significance of the closed-door discussions.
While the Presidency has yet to release an official statement, insiders hinted that the talks focused on Ibas’ handling of governance and financial decisions while he was in charge of Rivers State.
This conversation is happening against the backdrop of fresh tension in the state legislature.
Only a few days earlier, the Rivers State House of Assembly opened moves to audit funds, contracts, and revenue expenditures from Ibas’ six-month administration.
Speaker Martin Amaewhule had declared that the Assembly would examine every financial action taken under the emergency administration period.
In response, Ibas pushed back strongly, dismissing the probe attempts and questioning the Assembly’s motives.
“The House has no grounds to witch-hunt a lawful administration that operated during extraordinary times,” Ibas was quoted as saying.
