The apex court has just released its judgment on the appeal filed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) against Bashir Machina’s candidature.
The Supreme Court declared Senate President Ahmad Lawan to be the rightful senatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Yobe North Senatorial District on Monday.
The ruling nullifies previous judgements from the Federal High Court and the Court of Appeal, which had affirmed Bashir Machina as the APC candidate for Yobe North.
Justice Centus Chima Nweze gave the majority judgement, arguing that a Writ of Summons should have been filed instead of an Originating Summons in view of Machina’s claims against the defendants.
As such, APC and INEC must recognise Lawan as their candidate for Yobe North according to this new ruling.
