On Wednesday, February 22nd 2023, Christians across the world began their 40-day Lenten journey toward Easter.
This season of prayer and fasting runs from Ash Wednesday to Holy Saturday, excluding Sundays which commemorate God’s rest from creation.
Many attended services in commemoration of the beginning of Lent and shared photos on social media.
During his sermon, Rev. Fr. Godfrey Gopep of St Finberrs’ Catholic Church in Rayfield Jos urged Christians to have the fear of God in all their interactions and to “show love by serving the poor” during this time.
The Lenten season is a preparation for Jesus Christ’s resurrection on Easter Sunday – two days after Good Friday.
