Lionel Messi, the legendary footballer who recently parted ways with Paris St Germain, has confirmed that he will be joining Inter Miami, a US Major League Soccer team, as a free agent.
Despite being linked with a return to Barcelona, Messi chose to move to the US due to LaLiga’s financial fair play rules.
In an interview with Mundo Deportivo and Sport newspapers, Messi stated that he wanted to leave Europe, get out of the spotlight, and focus more on his family.
He also expressed his desire to experience football in a different way and enjoy the day-to-day in the US league.
Inter Miami, co-owned by former England captain David Beckham, is currently at the bottom of the Eastern Conference standings.
However, the MLS is pleased with Messi’s decision to join the team and hopes to benefit from his popularity and existing deals with Adidas and Apple.
