In a move that could shape the 2027 presidential race, five state governors from the North Central region, along with several high-ranking party members, have thrown their weight behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s second-term bid.
According to News, the endorsement was declared during a political meeting held in Abuja on Wednesday, May 21, 2025. Attendees included five governors elected under the All Progressives Congress (APC) banner, National Assembly members, ministers, and other party leaders.
Senator George Akume, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, led the motion for the president’s reelection. In his statement, he emphasized the administration’s progress, noting:
“We, members of the APC North Central geopolitical zone… having watched with total satisfaction and admiration the sterling performance of the APC-led government… have resolved… to endorse President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR to run for another tenure of four years to continue with his good works.”
Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State, while reading the meeting’s communique, pointed to the administration’s actions on infrastructure, education, and security, asserting that the region has seen tangible results under Tinubu’s leadership.
Kwara State Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq reminded the gathering of the promises made by the region during the president’s previous campaign. He cited the recent formation of the North Central Development Commission and local appointments as proof that the zone’s concerns are being addressed.
Another key policy praised was the establishment of the national forest guards, which Abdulrazaq called a strategic move to improve national security through local engagement.
Meanwhile, APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje acknowledged the increased involvement of party members in national governance through strategic appointments to board leadership positions.
The gathering drew in a number of other prominent names, including Deputy Senate Leader Senator Oyelola Yisa Ashiru, Minister of Justice Lateef Fagbemi, Information Minister Mohammed Idris, and former governors such as Yahaya Bello and Tanko Almakura.
As preparations for the 2027 election begin to take shape, the North Central region’s political bloc appears united in its early backing of Tinubu.
