China has accused the United States of damaging its credibility after launching attacks on Iran’s nuclear sites, NaijNaira can report.
The incident was reported by China’s state broadcaster, following a United Nations Security Council meeting, according to Reuters.
President Donald Trump confirmed the US had “obliterated” key Iranian nuclear sites, calling it one of the largest military actions against Iran since 1979.
Russia, China, and Pakistan pushed for a ceasefire resolution, urging the 15-member UN body to demand an immediate end to hostilities in the Middle East.
China’s UN Ambassador, Fu Cong, called on all involved parties to “restrain the impulse of force” and “avoid adding fuel to the fire.”
Fu emphasized that Israel should “immediately cease fire to prevent the situation from escalating and to stop the war from spreading.”
Fu added, “Iran has suffered, but the credibility of the United States has also been damaged—both as a nation and as a player in global negotiations.”
Chinese state media described the US action as “extremely dangerous and provocative,” warning that such moves could “deepen regional hatred and trauma.”
In an opinion piece, the Global Times argued that foreign military interventions will “never bring peace” but instead stir lasting regional wounds.
China’s embassy in Iran later confirmed that most Chinese nationals had been safely evacuated, while those remaining were outside high-risk zones.
