Denis Villeneuve has officially been announced as the director of the next James Bond movie, marking a bold new era for the legendary spy series, NaijNaira can report.
Deadline first revealed the news, confirming the acclaimed Dune and Blade Runner 2049 filmmaker will take over from Cary Joji Fukunaga. While the next 007 actor remains unconfirmed following Daniel Craig’s exit in No Time To Die, Villeneuve’s involvement alone is enough to stir excitement.
“I grew up watching James Bond films with my father, ever since Dr. No,” Villeneuve said. “To me, he’s sacred territory. I intend to honour the tradition and open the path for many new missions to come.”
Amazon MGM Studios’ Mike Hopkins added, “Denis has delivered compelling worlds, dynamic visuals, and immersive storytelling. James Bond is in the hands of one of today’s greatest filmmakers.”
Amy Pascal and David Heyman will produce the upcoming 007 film, with Courtenay Valenti and Sue Kroll confirming that work has begun in London. “We are committed to bringing a fresh, exotic new chapter to audiences around the world,” they said at CinemaCon.
Speculation around the next Bond actor continues to heat up, with Aaron Taylor-Johnson dropping cryptic hints. “I can’t talk about it,” he told Deadline with a knowing smile.
Recently named global ambassador for Omega, Taylor-Johnson praised the brand: “I am in awe of the skill required to manufacture such a luxurious product.”
Omega’s CEO called him a “versatile actor,” keeping the Bond rumors very much alive.
