Alhaji Aminu Dantata, the respected Nigerian business mogul and elder statesman, was laid to rest on Tuesday in the holy city of Madinah, Saudi Arabia, following his death at the age of 94, NaijNaira can report.
According to Leadership News, his body was flown in by his son, Alhaji Tajudeen Dantata, alongside his nephew and Africa’s richest man, Alhaji Aliko Dangote.
They arrived in Madinah Tuesday morning with other family members for the burial rites at Al-Baqi Cemetery, held after Maghrib prayers at the Prophet’s Mosque.
“His humility and contributions to commerce will never be forgotten,” Dangote said at the graveside.
A federal government delegation also attended, led by the Minister of Defence, Alhaji Muhammad Badaru Abubakar.
Others in the delegation included the Attorney General of the Federation, Prince Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), and the Minister of Information, Alhaji Mohammed Idris.
Also present were the Minister of State for Housing, Yusuf Abdullahi Ata, and Hassan Abdullahi from the Office of the National Security Adviser.
Prominent clerics who joined the funeral included Dr. Bashir Aliyu Umar, Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa, and Imam Khalifa Abdullahi Muhammad.
Officials from Nigeria’s Consulate in Jeddah, led by Ambassador Ibrahim Moddibbo, helped coordinate the arrangements.
Ambassador Muazzam Ibrahim Nayaya and Major General Adamu Hassan supported the consulate team.
Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau and APC’s former chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, attended the prayers.
Governors Abba Kabir Yusuf (Kano) and Umar Namadi (Jigawa) were present, along with Emirs Muhammad Sanusi II and Aminu Ado Bayero.
