Rotimi Amaechi has confirmed that he is no longer a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), marking a major political shift, NaijNaira can report.
The former Rivers State governor and ex-Minister of Transportation made the announcement during the unveiling of a new coalition in Abuja, according to Daily Trust.
Amaechi described the coalition as more than just a political party, calling it a “movement” driven by citizens. “We must start not just a party, but a movement… that brings in Nigerians to on their own take over government,” he said.
He didn’t hold back in his criticism of the current state of the country. “Nigeria is completely destroyed,” he said. “People can’t eat. There’s no money. Inflation is at its peak.”
He added that the federal government is focused on manipulating the electoral process while ordinary Nigerians suffer.
Confirming his departure from APC, Amaechi revealed, “I left APC last night. I warned them. You can’t be in a club where majority of people are stealing and you don’t say anything.”
Amaechi also took a jab at President Bola Tinubu, stating, “I have never believed that Tinubu is a material to govern the country.”
He argued that things were better under former President Buhari, saying, “People are asking for Buhari because things were better… a dollar was ₦460, now it’s ₦1,580.”
He questioned Tinubu’s leadership approach, noting, “President Tinubu said he is not here to make Nigerians happy.”
“I have the right to be ambitious. I am not over ambitious,” he concluded.
