Atiku Abubakar has criticised President Bola Tinubu following Nigeria’s exclusion from a meeting between former U.S. President Donald Trump and five African leaders, NaijNaira can report.
According to Leadership News, Trump announced plans to meet with presidents of Gabon, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mauritania, and Senegal at the White House to explore commercial partnerships.
Atiku’s media aide, Phrank Shaibu, described Nigeria’s absence as a clear signal of how far the country’s diplomatic relevance has declined under Tinubu’s leadership.
“This exclusion by the Trump administration is not a diplomatic oversight. It is not a scheduling error. It is a verdict — scathing in symbolism and staggering in implication,” Atiku said.
He pointed to the weakened state of ECOWAS, with three member countries exiting and over 40% of the bloc’s land mass lost under Tinubu’s watch.
“Once Africa’s diplomatic compass… Nigeria has now become an afterthought. Ignored. Sidelined. Stripped of influence,” he added.
Atiku also questioned Tinubu’s global alliances, saying billionaire Gilbert Chagoury, a known Clinton Foundation donor, holds no sway in Trump’s circle.
He claimed Nigeria placed its international influence on false connections and has suffered severe consequences.
“From Giant of Africa to diplomatic ghost — Tinubu has finished the job,” Atiku said, accusing him of destroying regional ties and damaging Nigeria’s global standing.
He called for national resistance and a political reset, warning that history won’t forget those who stayed silent.
“History may not be kind to this government. But history will remember who stood up to end it,” he declared.
