A coalition of opposition leaders under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) is making strategic moves to absorb the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) state structures before the 2027 elections, NaijNaira can report.
Saturday Sun disclosed that former Senate President David Mark, who now leads the interim ADC leadership, held closed-door meetings with ex-Vice President Atiku Abubakar and several former PDP governors to forge the alliance.
Attendees included Sule Lamido, Aminu Tambuwal, Liyel Imoke, Babangida Aliyu, Sam Egwu, Gabriel Suswam, and former PDP National Chairman Uche Secondus.
Describing President Bola Tinubu’s government as a “national disaster,” coalition leaders said Nigeria’s development indices have crumbled, leaving citizens struggling for survival.
Prominent defectors to the ADC include Mohammed Kumalia, Saleh Kida, Babakura Yusuf, and Abdulrazaq Zanna from Borno; Abdullahi Ataka from Gombe; and Ahmed Gumel in Jigawa.
ADC state chair Auwal Barde called it a “genuine movement to rescue Nigeria,” while Gumel said the goal is “to restructure the political landscape.”
However, internal cracks are emerging as long-time ADC members, led by spokesman Dr. Musa Isa Matara, accuse new leaders of hijacking the party.
Three ADC members have filed a suit in Abuja challenging the legality of David Mark’s leadership.
Meanwhile, Bola Ilori, a close ally of Rauf Aregbesola, dismissed the coalition, pledging unwavering loyalty to President Tinubu.
“My loyalty to Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is absolute,” Ilori said. “Would I abandon my benefactor for an unknown person on the ballot? No be juju be that.”
