After ten seasons with Tottenham Hotspur, Son Heung Min has announced he will exit the club this summer for what he called a “fresh challenge” — www.naijnaira.com reports.
The South Korean forward shared his decision during a press briefing in Seoul, just ahead of Spurs’ upcoming friendly match with Newcastle. According to PA, MLS club LAFC appears to be leading the race to sign him.
Son described the decision as incredibly difficult, saying, “I came to North London at 23, and now I leave as a proud man. I just feel it’s the right moment to move on.” He thanked fans for their loyalty and expressed hope that supporters would respect his choice.
He confirmed Tottenham had been supportive, noting the conversation was respectful and mutual. Son has made 454 appearances and scored 173 goals since joining the club from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015.
Tottenham’s new manager, Thomas Frank, said Son will captain the team in Sunday’s friendly in Seoul, potentially his last game in a Spurs shirt. Frank added, “If this is his final match, it’s fitting it happens in front of his home fans.”
Son leaves having led Spurs to a long-awaited Europa League title earlier this year.
