Aisha Buhari, the outgoing First Lady, has called for special privileges to be given to wives of former Presidents after their tenures end.
Speaking at the launch of a book in Abuja, Buhari listed these privileges as including vehicles, sponsored medical treatments, and stipends.
She argued that former first ladies deserved these privileges just like their husbands or Presidents in office and out of office.
Buhari commended the author of the book, which focuses on the experiences of military wives, and said that it would help officers’ wives navigate their lives.
The Chief of Defence Staff and the Chief of the Naval Staff also spoke at the event, commending the author for her work.
Former First Lady Maryam Abacha also spoke, calling for greater cooperation amongst military families.
The author of the book, Vickie Anwuli Irabor, said that military wives were unsung heroines who deserved recognition for their contributions to securing the nation.
