Alhaji Aminu Alhassan Dantata, a respected Nigerian tycoon and well-known philanthropist, has died at the age of 94, NaijNaira can report.

Tribune Online revealed that news of his passing surfaced early Saturday through Uba Tanko Mijinyawa, Deputy National Treasurer of NACCIMA, who shared a heartfelt tribute via social media.

“Inna Lillahi wa’inna ilaihi Raji’un. Allah ya yi wa babanmu Dattijo, Alhaji Aminu Alhassan Dantata, rasuwa,” Mijinyawa posted, offering prayers for mercy and forgiveness for the late elder.

Dantata, an uncle to Africa’s wealthiest man, Aliko Dangote, left an imprint not only in commerce but also in community development and Islamic banking.

His Principal Private Secretary, Mustapha Abdullahi Junaid, confirmed the news in a statement on Saturday morning.

“It is with heavy heart that I announce the passing of our beloved father, Alhaji Aminu Alhassan Dantata,” Junaid wrote. “May Allah grant him Jannatul Firdaus and forgive his shortcomings.”

Dantata founded Express Petroleum & Gas Company Ltd. and helped pioneer Jaiz Bank, Nigeria’s first Islamic non-interest bank, impacting both finance and faith sectors.

Funeral arrangements (Janazah) will be shared publicly once finalized by the family, per close sources.
