Arsenal and Bournemouth have reached an agreement for a surprising loan move involving 35-year-old Brazilian goalkeeper Neto.

The Gunners, halted in their pursuit of Joan Garcia from Espanyol, quickly turned their attention to the Bournemouth captain to fill their backup goalkeeper spot.

Neto has been a reliable performer for Bournemouth since joining the club on a free transfer from Barcelona in August 2022.

Appointed as the club captain shortly after his arrival, Neto has shown commendable leadership on and off the pitch.

He has made 63 appearances for Bournemouth, keeping 13 clean sheets while conceding 99 goals.

Despite the number of goals conceded, his consistent performances have made him a standout player for the Cherries.

However, Neto’s status as Bournemouth’s first-choice goalkeeper came under threat following Kepa Arrizabalaga‘s arrival from Chelsea.

Sensing an opportunity, Arsenal initiated talks with Bournemouth for a season-long loan for Neto.

Arsenal’s interest is driven by the need to find a reliable backup for David Raya, as Aaron Ramsdale is reportedly on the verge of a £25 million move to Southampton before the transfer window closes.

Arsenal and Bournemouth agreed on a season-long loan deal for Neto, with no purchase option included.

This means the experienced shot-stopper will return to Bournemouth next summer, leaving the Gunners to reassess their goalkeeping options at that time.
