Former Vice President of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar, recently held a meeting with leaders and stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to discuss strategies to prevent former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, from taking control of the party’s leadership.
The closed-door meeting, which lasted over two hours, was attended by several prominent figures including former Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and suspended party chairman Iyorchia Ayu.
Also in attendance were former governors Babangida Aliyu, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, and Ibrahim Shekarau, as well as seven serving governors.
The purpose of the meeting, which was held at the residence of a chieftain of the PDP and former Foreign Affairs Minister, Chief Tom Ikimi, in Maitama, Abuja, was to ensure that one of the ex-governors succeeds Iyorchia Ayu as the PDP National Chairman, in order to prevent Wike from exerting his influence over the party’s structure.
The details of the meeting were not disclosed, but it was described as productive and focused on collaborative efforts.
