Social Democratic Party (SDP) former presidential candidate Adewale Adebayo has revealed that prominent political figures are currently in talks with his party.
According to Adebayo, ex-Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party’s Peter Obi, and several other notable politicians are in discussions about potentially defecting to the SDP.
Adebayo made this statement while appearing on Channels Sunday Politics.
“People are joining my party, and we are welcoming them. You can see how active I am in welcoming them,” Adebayo said.
He mentioned that the discussions surrounding their defection are ongoing, but until they officially join, it remains uncertain.
“Until somebody actually joins, we don’t know,” Adebayo continued. “But people have told me, and the Financial Secretary (SDP) has also informed me, that they are talking. So we will welcome everybody.”
Adebayo also expressed confidence that if these politicians adhere to the culture of the SDP, they could make a significant impact.
He believes that they could join forces to defeat the All Progressives Congress (APC) and retire President Bola Tinubu.
“If they can stick to our culture and follow the way we do things in the SDP and produce a good alternative for Nigerians, we are going to defeat the APC and retire President Tinubu to Lagos manifestly or wherever he chooses in Nigeria,” Adebayo said.
