The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) is facing a fresh crisis as tensions rise between the camps of Atiku Abubakar, the party’s former presidential candidate, and Nyesom Wike, the former governor of Rivers State.
The conflict arose over the endorsement of Kingsley Chinda, a close ally of Wike, for the position of minority leader in the House of Representatives.
Chinda was nominated as the consensus candidate of the PDP Reps caucus, but this decision did not sit well with some PDP leaders in Atiku’s camp.
Atiku’s preferred candidate, Oluwole Oke, reportedly stepped down from the race, leading to further tensions within the party.
Some PDP chieftains who were unhappy with Wike’s lack of cooperation during the 2023 presidential election were also reportedly uncomfortable with Chinda’s nomination.
The situation remains unresolved, and the PDP is facing yet another dilemma as it struggles to navigate these internal conflicts.
