Pop star Ayra Starr, also known as Oyinkansola Sarah Aderibigbe, expressed her anger towards the organizers of the 16th Headies Awards for neglecting and refusing to announce several categories, including the category she won.
According to The Nation, many viewers and attendees shared Ayra Starr’s point of view, expressing dissatisfaction over the disorganized arrangement and sudden decision of the organizers to announce winners for only 13 categories at the award show held at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre in Atlanta, USA.
The categories that were left unannounced include Best Female Artiste, Best Recording of The Year, Songwriter of The Year, Best RnB Single, Best Vocal Performance (Female), Headies Viewers’ Choice, and Best East African Artiste of the Year.
Others are Best North African Artiste of The Year, Best Southern African Artiste of The Year, Best Central African Artiste of The Year, International Artiste Of The Year, Best Alternative Album, and Best RnB Album.
Ayra Starr, who won the Best Female Artiste of the Year award, expressed her disappointment in a post on her Twitter page.
She criticized the organizers for neglecting herself and other female singers who work tirelessly in the industry to go unnoticed.
Ayra Starr mentioned how Tiwa Savage recorded four hit songs in one night and how Tems breathes and lives for music, emphasizing that they didn’t deserve such indifference.
She concluded by stating that Nigeria didn’t raise her to settle for less.
