The girlfriend of Barcelona and Netherlands international midfielder, Frenkie de Jong, has playfully teased Manchester United about the prospect of signing her famous boyfriend in the near future.
United have been chasing De Jong for years, but last summer it was Barcelona whom he chose to join instead.
The possibility of a future move has remained strong despite that setback and Mikky Kiemeney, De Jong’s girlfriend, was asked on Instagram when her boyfriend would be arriving at Old Trafford and jokingly replied with the date of United’s fixture against Barcelona set to take place later this month.
Erik ten Hag is believed to be keen on reuniting with his former star at Ajax, as De Jong flourished under Ten Hag before making the switch to Catalonia.
Ten Hag is said to want a partner for Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro in the heart of midfield and believes the 25-year-old could fit seamlessly into his role alongside them at United.
Financial constraints will likely mean De Jong won’t move this summer, but Ten Hag still hopes that if there is any chance for one last Manchester United pursuit of him then it should happen at the end of this season.
