Ilkay Gundogan, Barcelona star, has found it relatively easy to adapt to life at the club due to the similarities between their style of football and that of his former club, Manchester City.
Gundogan noted that both Barcelona and Manchester City follow a similar school of possession-based football, focusing on not losing the ball, creating opportunities, and playing intelligently.
He believes that the influence of Pep Guardiola, who previously managed both clubs, is evident in the playing style of Barcelona, particularly in the game of Xavi Hernandez.
Gundogan expressed his desire to win trophies with Barcelona and revealed that he was drawn to the club because of their prestigious history and the memorable performances of players like Ronaldinho.
He also spoke highly of the midfield trio of Sergio Busquets, Xavi, and Andres Iniesta, whom he considers to be the best in the world and from whom he learned a lot.
When asked to describe his former coaches in a single word, Gundogan used “intensity” for Jurgen Klopp, “intelligent” for Thomas Tuchel, and “genius” for Guardiola.
Gundogan will face his former coach Mikel Arteta when Barcelona takes on Arsenal in their first preseason friendly.
