Bobrisky, the social media celebrity, has filed a notice of appeal challenging the six-month maximum sentence given to her by a Federal High Court in Lagos for naira abuse. The presiding judge, Abimbola Awogboro, ruled that the sentence is without the option of a fine, and it commenced on the day of her arrest, March 24.

However, Bobrisky’s counsel, Bimbo Kusanu, has filed a notice of appeal requesting the Court of Appeal to set aside the maximum sentence. Kusanu is asking for an option of a N50,000 fine on each count instead. He argues that the trial court failed to consider the appellant’s positive antecedent and that the sentence imposed was punitive and contrary to the provisions of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA).

Bobrisky, whose real name is Idris Okuneye, was arrested and arraigned on a six-count charge by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). She pleaded guilty to the first four counts related to naira abuse, while the remaining two counts involved alleged money laundering.

It remains to be seen how the Court of Appeal will rule on this matter.
