Bournemouth have secured the signing of Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga on a season-long loan.
The Spain international became the world’s most expensive goalkeeper in 2018 with a £71.6m move from Athletic Bilbao to Chelsea.
He spent last season on loan at Real Madrid and has been training away from Chelsea’s first-team group since his return.
Before finalizing the loan, Kepa signed a one-year contract extension with Chelsea, ensuring the club maintains his value.
Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola played at Athletic Bilbao during Kepa’s early career and he expressed his excitement about the move.
Iraola believes Kepa’s arrival will increase competition within the squad and provide the team with the necessary experience in high-pressure situations.
Bournemouth had also shown interest in Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale, but he is expected to join Southampton in a £25m deal.
Neill Blake, Bournemouth’s chief executive, expressed his satisfaction with the signing, stating that he was “delighted to bring a player of Kepa’s calibre” to the club.
