Judge Abruptly Summons Nnamdi Kanu Amid Legal Uncertainty

In a sudden legal twist, Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court has issued an unexpected summons, demanding the presence of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Nnamdi Kanu, before her bench.

This development comes despite Justice Nyako’s previous decision to step away from the high-profile trial. Nonetheless, she has now ordered Kanu to appear in court on Monday, February 10.

Reacting to this sudden turn of events, Kanu’s legal counsel, Aloy Ejimakor, stated after a routine visit to his client that they are prepared to comply. “Our discussions today revolved around the shocking notice summoning Mazi Nnamdi Kanu to court on February 10. We shall be there, albeit with bated breath,” Ejimakor remarked.

Notably, Kanu’s defense team had earlier filed a motion seeking to transfer the case to a Federal Court in the South-East region, citing Justice Nyako’s prior recusal.

“We have credible information that, following her recusal, Justice Murtala-Nyako promptly forwarded the case file to Your Lordship for reassignment within the Abuja division. However, no judge in the division was willing to take on the matter,” Ejimakor disclosed.

As a result, the case file has reportedly been returned to Justice Nyako, a move the defense team intends to contest.

“With no Abuja judge willing to handle the case, the logical solution is to transfer it to a division in the South-East. The alleged offenses took place there, making it the most appropriate jurisdiction,” Ejimakor asserted.
