Buba Galadima, a prominent member of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has claimed that a group of individuals plotted to destabilize Kano with the goal of forcing the federal government to declare a state of emergency in the state.
He made these claims during an appearance on AIT’s political program Jigsaw on Tuesday. According to Galadima, the people behind this plot were doing so without President Bola Tinubu’s knowledge.
Galadima was firm in his statement, saying, “On the Kano situation, because unknown to him, and I can beat my chest that he didn’t know, Tinubu didn’t know what happened, what was arranged.”
He explained that the conspiracy involved setting up the Kano state government and the Emir in a way that would justify a declaration of a state of emergency.
He further described a high-level meeting in Abuja, where the plot was reportedly orchestrated.
During the discussion, a key individual, allegedly positioned to become the Emir of Kano, was deliberately sent to Umrah.
As Galadima revealed, “There was a meeting in a senior official of government’s house in this Abuja, and the man that was supposed to be appointed Emir was sent to Umrah, and as I speak to you now, he is in Saudi Arabia.”
The idea was that, once the Emir arrived back in Nigeria, he would be detained in Abuja, and the military would be put on alert, with the throne declared vacant.
When asked to name the individual involved, Galadima declined but suggested that everyone in Nigeria should know who it is.
He said, “No, I don’t want to mention names. Go and find out who is in Saudi Arabia out of the princes in Kano. Everybody in Nigeria knows what is happening.”
According to the report, this plot was set up without the knowledge of President Bola Tinubu.
