Public affairs commentator Farooq Kperogi has claimed that Aisha Buhari and the late President Muhammadu Buhari were no longer married before his death, NaijNaira can report.
In a post shared on his verified Facebook page, Kperogi responded to media reports that Aisha Buhari said her late husband asked her to seek forgiveness from Nigerians.
According to Kperogi, Aisha had already reverted to her maiden name before Buhari passed away.
“I can’t verify that statement, but I know Aisha and Buhari had divorced. She resumed using her maiden name, Aisha Halilu,” he wrote.
He argued that Aisha’s actions in Buhari’s final months hinted at a separation.
“If you paid attention, you’d notice Aisha didn’t accompany Buhari to Daura. He was later moved to Kaduna alone,” he said.
He added that Aisha hesitated to travel to London to care for Buhari when he fell ill.
“She only went in his final days after much persuasion,” Kperogi alleged.
He also questioned the authenticity of the statement linked to Aisha.
“When and where did Buhari tell her to apologise to Nigerians? Where did she even say this?” he asked.
