Former Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Prince Bola Ajibola (SAN), has passed away at the age of 89.
The news of his death was confirmed on Sunday, and President Muhammadu Buhari has sent his condolences to the Ajibola family, the legal community in Nigeria and worldwide.
In a statement released by his Media Adviser, Femi Adesina, President Buhari praised the late Ajibola for his contributions to the legal system in Nigeria and beyond.
The President noted that Ajibola used his legal knowledge and talent to advocate for justice, fairness and equity in all his undertakings both within and outside Nigeria.
Prince Ajibola served as the Attorney General and Minister for Justice during a critical period in the nation’s history, and his patriotic inclinations, integrity and passion for service and advancement of humanity will continue to resonate after him.
The late Ajibola also served as the President of the Nigerian Bar Association from 1984 to 1985, President of the World Association of Judges, Chairman of the Body of Senior Advocates of Nigeria, and President of the World Bank Administrative Tribunal.
He also served as the Nigeria High Commissioner to the United Kingdom from 1999 to 2002.
President Buhari sympathised with the government and people of Ogun State, where Prince Ajibola hails from, as they mourn this illustrious citizen for the educational and social development he brought to his community and environs.
The President prayed that the Almighty will grant Prince Ajibola Aljannah.
Prince Ajibola was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1963 and went on to become one of the country’s most accomplished legal minds.
He served as a judge at the International Court of Justice at The Hague, where he worked diligently between 1991 and 1994.
