Former Manchester United head coach Erik Ten Hag has approved the sale of Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface from Bayer Leverkusen, according to reports.

Boniface, 24, impressed in his debut Bundesliga season by scoring 21 goals and providing nine assists across 34 matches. He helped Leverkusen win the league title and the DFB Pokal under Xabi Alonso. However, his form declined last season, with just 11 goals in 27 appearances due to injuries.

As per the German outlet Bild, Ten Hag, who replaced Alonso at Leverkusen, does not see Boniface in his plans for the upcoming season. Patrik Schick is set to remain the club’s first-choice striker despite his frustration over limited playing time last term.

Ten Hag said, “Patrik Schick will lead our attack, and we have faith in his ability to be the main striker for Bayer Leverkusen.” With Schick confirmed as the starter, Boniface now faces an exit with a transfer fee around €50 million.

Interest in the Super Eagles attacker has come from the Premier League, particularly Newcastle United. However, Boniface prefers a move to La Liga in Spain rather than England. Meanwhile, Cameroonian Christian Kofane is set to join as Schick’s backup, strengthening Leverkusen’s forward line for the 2025/26 season.
