The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) says it is actively working to track down both local and foreign operators behind the collapsed digital trading platform CBEX.

According to a report by Nigerian Cultural Tours, the commission confirmed on Tuesday that it is partnering with INTERPOL to trace those responsible for the platform’s crash, which left investors—mostly Nigerians—stranded after losing over ₦1.3 million.

Following the crash, many affected users took to social media to express their frustration. Some also stormed the CBEX office in Lagos, looting abandoned property as staff and operators disappeared.

EFCC spokesperson Adele Oyewale revealed that investigations into CBEX had already begun before the platform went under. He said the agency is pursuing both local and international leads.

Oyewale stressed that EFCC is working with other regulators to bring justice to investors. He assured the public that, where recovery is possible, the agency will recover funds. Where prosecution is possible, they will prosecute.

“We are on the local collaborators while we are partnering with INTERPOL to trace the foreign operators,” Oyewale said.

He also advised Nigerians to do proper checks before investing in any financial company. Regulatory bodies such as the Central Bank of Nigeria and the Securities and Exchange Commission, he added, are there to guide and protect the public.

Oyewale urged people to always confirm a company’s legitimacy with these agencies before committing any money.
