Chelsea Football Club has been warned that they are potentially in danger of losing their ‘soul’ if they go ahead with a sale of two of their current stars.
This comes following their extensive spending over the last two transfer windows, amassing to more than £600 million in player purchases and breaking the British transfer record for Enzo Fernandez from Benfica.
Paul Merson, former Arsenal star, is cautioning Chelsea against selling Mason Mount and Conor Gallagher, both academy graduates from Cobham.
Mount’s contract currently expires in 2022; negotiations have paused as both parties have been unable to reach an agreement on wages that fit amongst the other highest earners of the club.
Meanwhile, Gallagher has been allotted limited minutes since January due to competing with other midfielders.
If the Englishman doesn’t find consistent playing time he may move away this summer.
With this potential move looming and revenue growing increasingly important at Stamford Bridge, it’s possible Chelsea could lose their “soul” if they decide to sell either or both players.
