Chelsea defeated Aston Villa 3-0 at Stamford Bridge to reclaim third place in the Premier League.
Nicolas Jackson, Enzo Fernandez, and Cole Palmer were all on the scoresheet as Chelsea secured their third consecutive win across all competitions, following previous victories over Leicester and Heidenheim.
Chelsea started the match strongly Jackson opening the scoring in the 7th minute, firing in off the post after a low cross from Marc Cucurella.
Villa protested a possible foul by Cucurella, but the goal stood after VAR review.
Ollie Watkins had a great chance to equalize but was denied by Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez.
Villa goalkeeper Emi Martinez was kept busy, making several key saves, including a stop from Palmer after a backpass from Pau Torres set up a rare indirect free-kick.
Chelsea doubled their lead in the 37th minute when Fernandez linked up with Palmer before curling a shot into the bottom corner.
In the second half, Chelsea controlled the game, despite losing Wesley Fofana to injury.
The final goal came from Palmer in the 66th minute, who curled a brilliant shot into the top corner after receiving a pass from Noni Madueke.
The win moved Chelsea back above Manchester City and Brighton in the table, with them now just six points off the top, while Villa’s winless run extended to eight matches, their worst under manager Unai Emery.
