Cole Palmer didn’t hold back after Chelsea’s return to the Champions League ended in a 3-1 defeat against Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena – www.naijnaira.com reports.
Speaking to TNT Sports, the England international expressed his frustration, pointing out his teammates’ lapses in focus and their inability to control key phases of the match.
“Lack of concentration, not managing the moments correct,” Palmer admitted, making it clear he felt the Blues missed a chance to punish Bayern when they had early momentum.
It was Chelsea’s first Champions League appearance in nearly two-and-a-half years, but the night turned sour after Trevoh Chalobah’s own goal and two sharp finishes from Harry Kane secured victory for the Bundesliga champions.
Palmer had given Chelsea hope in the first half when he combined brilliantly with Malo Gusto before calmly slotting past Manuel Neuer for his second goal in four days.
He thought he had a late second, finishing coolly after being set up by Andrey Santos, but VAR intervened to deny him for offside in the build-up.
Despite pockets of slick attacking football, Chelsea lacked cutting edge, creating little to trouble Neuer as Bayern dictated the big moments.
Manager Enzo Maresca praised the team’s opening spell but admitted the goals conceded were preventable, adding: “Overall the performance was quite good… but we can avoid that kind of goal.”
The Blues now turn focus back to domestic action, facing Manchester United in the Premier League on Saturday before a Carabao Cup clash at Lincoln City.
