Chelsea are on the verge of signing Robert Sanchez from Brighton in a deal that could reach up to £25 million.

Sanchez, who was once considered one of Europe’s most promising young goalkeepers, lost his place in the Brighton team last season.

If the deal goes through as expected, the 25-year-old Spaniard will compete with Kepa Arrizabalaga for a starting position at Chelsea under Mauricio Pochettino.

This move will also reunite Sanchez with his former goalkeeping coach, Ben Roberts, who joined Chelsea last year.

Chelsea is also hoping to sign midfielder Moises Caicedo from Brighton before the transfer window closes.

However, their latest offer of £80 million was rejected, as Brighton values Caicedo at £100 million. Despite this, Caicedo is keen on making the move to Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea has been in search of another goalkeeper since Edouard Mendy’s departure to Al-Ahli.

Sanchez’s departure from Brighton has been expected since he was replaced by Jason Steele last season.

Brighton has already signed Bart Verbruggen as his replacement.

In other news, Chelsea will be monitoring the condition of forward Christopher Nkunku, who suffered a knee injury in a pre-season match against Borussia Dortmund.

Nkunku, who was signed from RB Leipzig for £52 million, hopes to recover in time for Chelsea’s Premier League opener against Liverpool.
