Chelsea forward Joao Felix has joined AC Milan on loan for the remainder of the season.

The move comes just six months after Felix signed with Chelsea from Atletico Madrid.

Despite a high-profile transfer, Felix struggled for consistent playing time under manager Enzo Maresca, starting only three of Chelsea’s 24 Premier League matches so far this season.

Felix had previously played on loan at both Chelsea and Barcelona after his £112 million move to Atletico from Benfica in 2019.

However, his career has not lived up to expectations.

At Chelsea, he made 40 appearances across all competitions, scoring 11 goals and providing two assists.

This season, he netted seven times in 20 appearances but largely featured in the Europa Conference League and domestic cups rather than the Premier League.

Though Felix is set to return to Chelsea at the end of the loan, AC Milan reportedly plans to make the move permanent once the loan expires.

Milan had been interested in Felix earlier in the January transfer window but couldn’t finalize a permanent deal due to the need to finance a move for striker Santi Gimenez.

However, Felix has been told that he could have a long-term future at the San Siro.

Premier League clubs Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa had also shown interest in the Portuguese forward before his move to Milan.
