Gary Kong, the president of the Sino-American Commerce Association in Flushing, New York, is facing backlash after inviting an impersonator of Elon Musk to an event last month.

The event was meant to launch the first issue of Wall St Magazine, and over 100 guests attended, expecting the real Elon Musk to make an appearance.

However, an impersonator showed up instead, causing guests to accuse Mr Kong of deceit and lying to attract a larger audience.

The Sino-American Commerce Association had issued a statement promoting the event as an “Elon Musk launch cover appearance party in Manhattan,” which led to confusion and disappointment among guests.

To address the situation, the association’s founding president held a press conference, stating that the misunderstanding was due to cultural differences between China and the West.

Mr Kong clarified that the event was free and that no one was charged a fee to attend.

However, a similar event in March had reportedly charged guests from mainland China $30,000, and it is unclear whether they received refunds.

The incident has sparked outrage among Chinese social media users, with some accusing Mr Kong of cheating and deceiving them.
