After five wins from their last six matches and more points accumulated than any team aside from Arsenal since their opening day defeats, Manchester United are level on points with Newcastle and in contention for a top-four finish.
Alan Shearer believes United have what it takes to make the Champions League positions, but only if they sign reinforcements in the attacking department during this month’s transfer window.
Shearer has noted that should United bring in some talent up front, they will certainly have a good shot at staying in the upper echelons of the table.
‘I was going to say that they’re going along quietly but you can’t do anything quietly if you’re Manchester United,’ Shearer told Premier League Productions.
‘I’m sure they’ll try to strengthen in the next couple of weeks and if they can – particularly in the forward area which is where they need to do that – then they’ll have a right good go at being in that top four and staying in there.’
Ten Hag was tasked with reaching Europe’s premier competition when he was appointed at Old Trafford and resources are scarce as the Glazers look for a buyer for the club – so any reinforcement would most likely come via loan deals.
