The Inspector General of Police, Mr Usman Alkali, and the Force Secretary, AIG Hafeez Inuwa, have been ordered to be arrested by a National Industrial Court in Abuja for violating a court order, which was deemed contemptuous.

The court had previously ordered the IG to reinstate several police personnel who were forcefully retired by the force, but the IG allegedly did not follow the court decision.

The officers had petitioned the court for an injunction to overturn their forced retirement.

The court then ordered the reinstatement of the forcefully retired officers by the IG, the Police Service Commission, and the Force Secretary of the Police.

Despite ample opportunities given to them to appear before the court and show cause why they are not to be held in contempt, both the IG and the Force Secretary have refused to obey or comply with the court’s order.

The court has therefore ordered their arrest and production before the court for necessary action.

The case has been adjourned until October 9, 2023.
