Veteran journalist and former presidential candidate, Dele Momodu, has officially cut ties with the Peoples Democratic Party after accusing it of losing its democratic core, NaijNaira can report.
In a resignation letter addressed to PDP Ward 4 in Ihievbe, Edo State, dated July 17, 2025, and seen by NaijNaira, Momodu claimed the party was no longer under the control of its original values.
“My reason is simple and straightforward. Our party has been unarguably hijacked by antidemocratic forces, from within and outside, in broad daylight,” he wrote.
Momodu described the current state of the PDP as nothing more than a “carcass,” stating it no longer represents internal democracy or the people’s will.
“It is, therefore, honourable to abandon the carcass of the party to them while the majority of us earnestly sign up with the new coalition party known as the African Democratic Congress,” he added.
He appreciated the loyalty and support shown to him during his run for the party’s 2023 presidential ticket, promising to carry those memories forward.
His defection adds to the growing list of PDP leaders who have recently exited over concerns of internal control and imposition.
