Bola Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has accused enemies of Nigeria’s democracy of trying to cause confusion using the current scarcity of fuel and naira.

In a statement released on Tuesday, he stated that what “enemies of democracy” want is to create a state of national siege and tension ahead of the forthcoming general elections.

He continued by expressing sympathy for Nigerians who have been affected by the Central Bank’s policy and shortages in fuel supply.

Tinubu also reminded Nigerians to remain calm and avoid any action that could lead to civil unrest or conflict.

The presidential candidate from Action Democratic Party, Yabagi Sani, made similar comments linking the currency redesign policy with those who are against Nigeria’s democratic process.

Thirteen political parties threatened to withdraw from taking part in 2023’s elections if time was not extended for swapping naira.

However, others supported this decision as they lauded President Muhammadu Buhari for setting up the new notes.
