Rangers forward Cyriel Dessers has expressed a strong desire to compete in major international tournaments with Nigeria’s Super Eagles. According to Soccernet.ng, the striker was recently recalled to the national team after missing ten consecutive matches and has quickly made an impact.
Dessers was included in Nigeria’s squad for the 2025 Unity Cup and scored the second goal in a 2-0 victory over Ghana. His goal came after a precise chest control and a powerful strike following a cross from Sodiq Ismael of Remo Stars.
Speaking ahead of the match, Dessers emphasized his commitment to the Nigeria national team. “Obviously, when you get the call, you want to go. I’ve already had a few beautiful moments with the national team, but I hope to add more. I hope to play in big tournaments,” he said. “It would be a dream—almost like the perfect way to complete my career—if I could go to a major tournament with Nigeria, with the Super Eagles, and hopefully win something there.”
Dessers had a strong season at club level with Rangers, scoring 29 goals in 55 appearances. He has transferred that form onto the international stage, now scoring three goals in seven appearances for Nigeria.
With Nigeria set to face Jamaica in the Unity Cup final, Dessers will aim to maintain his place in the squad. Looking ahead, he hopes to be selected for the crucial 2026 World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, where the Super Eagles will seek their fourth continental title.
