A coalition under the banner of the Northern Christians Accord (NCA) has called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to launch an investigation into Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State.
In a strongly worded statement on Thursday, NCA President Gideon Jato and Secretary Sunday Adoka asserted that El-Rufai had been implicated by the Kaduna State House of Assembly in alleged financial misconduct.
On June 5, 2024, the Assembly urged a formal probe into accusations of public fund misappropriation and money laundering under El-Rufai’s administration. Two of his former cabinet members, Mohammed Bashir Saidu and Jimi Lawal, are currently detained on corruption-related charges.
The group expressed frustration over what they described as EFCC’s silence regarding El-Rufai’s prosecution.
“We view this inaction as a blatant disregard for the rule of law and an outright insult to the people of Kaduna, particularly to the institution of the State House of Assembly,” the statement read.
The NCA issued an ultimatum, demanding that the EFCC and other anti-corruption agencies apprehend and prosecute El-Rufai within 48 hours or face mass protests at the EFCC headquarters.
El-Rufai, who governed Kaduna State from 2015 to 2023, now finds himself at the center of an intensifying legal and political storm.
