The Federal Government has taken possession of an estate in Abuja containing 753 uncompleted duplexes and apartments previously linked to Godwin Emefiele, former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria. The estate was formally transferred to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

According to Nigerian Tribune, EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede handed over the estate located in Plot 109, Cadastral Zone C09, Lokogoma District, Abuja, following a final forfeiture order issued by Justice Jude Onwuegbuzie of the FCT High Court in December 2024. The forfeiture was granted under Section 17 of the Advance Fee Fraud Act after investigations revealed the company linked to the estate denied ownership.

Housing Minister Ahmed Musa Dangiwa announced that the estate would be completed and offered to Nigerians through an open sale process via the Renewed Hope Portal. The government plans to finalize infrastructure such as roads and drainage and assess the structural safety of the buildings before making them available to the public.

Dangiwa emphasized that the initiative supports President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive to repurpose recovered properties into usable infrastructure that directly benefits Nigerians. The estate will be sold through a transparent and competitive system, ensuring that the process remains fair and inclusive.

The EFCC stated that actionable intelligence guided their investigation, which led to the recovery of the estate. The Ministry and EFCC plan to work together to ensure that this conversion of seized assets contributes meaningfully to national development efforts, especially in the housing sector.
