Emmanuel Kanu, the younger sibling of detained IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu, isn’t mincing words. He’s calling out South-East governors for what he sees as a glaring lack of backbone when it comes to demanding his brother’s freedom from President Bola Tinubu.
In a recent interview on ABN TV’s Political Perspective, Emmanuel bemoaned the governors’ reluctance to collectively face the president—a move he believes Yoruba leaders executed effectively to secure Sunday Igboho’s release. “What are they afraid of?” he asked pointedly.
He also blamed the 2017 military invasion of their family home for the subsequent deaths of his parents, Eze Israel Kanu and Ugo Eze Kanu. According to him, criminals masquerading as IPOB members have taken advantage of his brother’s prolonged detention to wreak havoc in Igboland, including alleged organ trafficking in forests.
Furthermore, he backed Nnamdi Kanu’s rejection of Justice Binta Nyako presiding over his case, citing her previous decision to recuse herself.
Meanwhile, he extended gratitude to Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu for his public appeal to Tinubu, reiterating his stance: “Nnamdi Kanu has committed no crime. Why is he still in detention?”
