Kofoworola Bucknor-Akerele, former Lagos State deputy governor, has demanded the cancellation of the state’s recent Local Government elections over reported voter suppression and irregularities, NaijNaira can report.

She made the call following her inability to vote at her designated polling unit on Saturday, July 3, during elections held across 20 Local Government Areas and 37 Local Council Development Areas.

According to The Guardian Nigeria, Bucknor-Akerele said her name was missing from the voters’ register, preventing her from casting her vote.

“I have been to my own unit, my name is not there,” she said. “I am calling for the cancellation of this election because there’s a clear effort to rig the election in favour of one party.”

She raised concerns over widespread disenfranchisement, insisting that the electoral process was manipulated.

“There is a clear effort to rig the election in favour of one party,” she reiterated. “Many people are not able to vote because they have completely disrupted all the polling units.”

Bucknor-Akerele urged the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) to take immediate steps to address the irregularities by annulling the election results.

She warned that failure to act could damage public trust in the democratic process.
