Abdulrasheed Bawa, the Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), recently urged journalists in the Northeast to use investigative journalism to expose corrupt practices, particularly money laundering and financing of terrorism.
Speaking through ACE Oshodi Johnson, Commander of the Maiduguri Zonal Command of the Commission, Bawa emphasized the importance of journalists being proactive and asking questions where corrupt practices are suspected.
He also drew attention to new anti-money laundering laws and urged journalists to be familiar with them in order to better inform the public.
Bawa further encouraged journalists to monitor the compliance of Designated Non-Financial Businesses and Professions with their obligations under the new laws.
The workshop included presentations on the anti-money laundering framework, digital payment statements, and investigative journalism.
The event was organized to deepen the relationship between the EFCC and the media.
