A TikTok creator, Ghali Isma’il, has been sent to Keffi Correctional Centre after posting a video falsely claiming President Bola Tinubu had passed away. The video, uploaded to his verified handle, @bola_asiwaju, claimed the president died due to poisoning. www.naijnaira.com reports.
Zagzola Makama was the first to report that Isma’il, 29, from Jogana in Kano State’s Gezawa Local Government Area, now faces two criminal charges in an Abuja Magistrate Court.
Prosecutors allege Isma’il deliberately posted unverified claims on July 20, 2025, alleging the president was critically ill and later died. Authorities say the post was designed to cause chaos and fear among the public.
The first charge accuses him of spreading false news with the intent to cause unrest, citing Section 418 of the Penal Code.
The second charge focuses on his attempt to incite negative sentiment towards the government, a violation under Section 416 of the Penal Code.
“Ghali intentionally caused panic by spreading lies about the President’s health,” the prosecution said.
Magistrate Ekpeyong Iyang rejected the defence’s plea for bail and ruled that Isma’il remain in custody until his next court appearance on August 19.
This case adds to a growing list of misinformation controversies involving public figures.
