Fatma Samoura, the first woman and non-European Secretary General of FIFA, will be stepping down from her position at the end of the year.
While no reason was given for her departure, FIFA stated that Samoura played a pivotal role in transforming the organization, restoring its credibility, and breaking down barriers during her seven-year tenure.
Samoura expressed her pride in leading such a diverse team and thanked Gianni Infantino for giving her the opportunity to work at FIFA.
She plans to spend more time with her family after leaving the organization.

Samoura oversaw unprecedented growth in women’s football and ensured that players at the upcoming FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 would enjoy the same conditions and service levels as the men at the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar.
