Olympic sprint sensation Favour Ofili has finally put an end to the rumors by announcing that she will now compete for Turkey — www.naijnaira.com reports.
The update follows earlier reports that suggested she was planning to change nationality after long frustrations with Nigeria’s athletics system.
Ofili made the news public through her social media accounts, where she described the past few months as “a whirlwind of new experiences and big decisions.”
She stressed that the choice was deeply personal, saying: “This change comes from the heart, not from financial motives.”
The Port Harcourt-born athlete reminded her followers of her accomplishments, including six gold medals, two silvers, and two bronzes for Nigeria, plus a spot as a 200m Olympic finalist.
Her decision came after setbacks that kept her from competing at both the Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 Olympics due to missed drug-test notifications and entry errors.
Despite those missed chances, she insisted money was not the reason for leaving, adding: “I’m truly grateful to have discovered a new home in Turkey.”
The Commonwealth Games silver medallist joins other Nigerian-born stars like Gloria Alozie, Francis Obikwelu, and Femi Ogunode who previously switched countries.
Ofili expressed gratitude to her coach, her agent, sponsor Adidas, and her family for their backing during what she called a major transition in her career.
While completing paperwork, she will skip the upcoming World Athletics Championships in Tokyo before beginning her next chapter under Turkish colors.
