Nigerian sprinter Favour Ofili has officially switched her sporting allegiance to Turkey, NaijNaira can report.

Ofili’s decision, confirmed by www.aclsports.com, comes after years of disappointment with the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) and the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC).

At just 22, Ofili was left out of the 100m race at the Paris 2024 Olympics, even though she met the qualifying time.

The AFN and NOC failed to register her for the event, repeating the same error that excluded her from the Tokyo 2021 Olympics.

In 2021, Ofili and 13 other Nigerian athletes missed their chance to compete after the necessary drug testing protocols were not completed.

Sources revealed that Ofili began her nationality switch process on May 31, 2025, and formally notified the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) of her reasons.

“I did not make this choice for money; it is the repeated failures that pushed me away,” Ofili said.

Despite these setbacks, the AFN leadership was returned to office in June 2025, which convinced Ofili to move forward with her decision.

Ofili’s personal records stand at 10.93 seconds in the 100m and 21.96 seconds in the 200m.

She recently finished sixth in the 200m final at the Paris Olympics.

With her decision, Turkey gains a world-class athlete while Nigeria suffers another painful loss.
